What is Word Processing?

Word processing is considered as the written document. Word processing in computer referred to typing, editing and formatting of any kind of text document, which can be a letter, application or report.

Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word is a word processor designed by Microsoft Corporation. It was first released in 1983 under the name Multi-Tool Word for Xenix systems. The current versions are Microsoft Office Word 2010 for Windows and Microsoft Office Word 2011 for Mac.
File Extensions

Microsoft Word's native file formats are denoted either by a .doc or .docx file extensions. But .doc extension is used for many different versions of Word, It actually compasses four distinct file formats:
1. Word for DOS.
2. Word for Windows 1 and 2; Word 4 and 5 for Mac.
3. Word 6 and Word 95 for Windows; Word 6 for Mac.
4. Word 97, 2000, 2002, 20003, 2007 and 2010 for Windows; Word 98,2001,X and 2004 for Mac.
